Peppermint

Peppermint

Peppermint anything may not be your kind of thing, but we assure you – peppermint schnapps are pretty special. If anything else, peppermint as a schnapps flavor lends a certain degree of coolness and freshness that makes many things taste clean and new – a perfect drink for spring and summer if we may be so bold to point out. While not as versatile as other schnapps flavors, peppermint schnapps does go well with lamb dishes, barbecue sauces and other food that tend to be greasy. Peppermint schnapps, when used to spike jellies, can also help flavors pop out – contrary to popular belief, peppermint is subtle and does not overwhelm other flavors.

To make your own peppermint schnapps, we suggest that you get fresh peppermint leaves – straight from the garden, if possible – as well as unflavored vodka, two clear glass jars, a dark room, a strainer and sugar syrup. Gently wash and dry your peppermint, and fill your jar up a third of the way. Top it up with vodka, seal it, and leave it in the dark room for about two months – shake and taste test every so often to get it just right. Strain the mixture into a new glass jar, and age it for a month in the dark room before taking it back out, blending it with equal parts of the sugar syrup, and storing it. Let it settle for two days, and you can serve or use it as you please.
